WHITE CRATER ( KAWAH PUTIH ) CIWIDEY - BANDUNG

Close to the small town of Ciwidey,southwest of Bandung,lies Mt.Patuha (2,334 mdpl) with na crater known locally as kawah putih or white crater.the name is believed to derive from the white clouds and mists which frequently blanket the mountain peak,swirling aroun and within the crater,creating a distinctly eerie and mysterious atmosphere.

Local people said that the mountain and crater are haunted by the spirits of ancestors possesing supernatural power with names such as Eyang (Granfather) Jaga Satru,Camat,Ngabai,and Baskom.The Mountain is often visited for the purpose of seeking blessing from these spiritual forefathers.

Visitor can walk around the rim of the crater,descend the inner slopes and approach close to the hot waters lying towards the center of the crater floor.The temperature of the water various,from warm at the edge to extremely hot at the center.Leafless and dead trees are found in the inner of slopes of the crater,killed by the poisonous air.Slightly to the was of the white crater is Mt. Patuha,known as kawah saat,which can be reach on foot

Gettng there :

·         Follow the road south from Bandung through Soreang and Ciwidey

·         Some 5 km beyond Ciwidey,a smaller road winds up to the mountain.Near the top is carpark and a walk  of 100 m to the crater

·         From Jakarta,tarvellers by car can take the toll road round the south of Bandung,leaving by the Kopo exit to meet the road to Soreang and Ciwidey
